- Paint.Net is a good freeware photo editor, but I prefer Gimp, which is more like Adobe Photoshop. Paint.Net: http://www.getpaint.net/ - easy to use, good for 90% of your basic editing needs Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/ - lots of options which makes it a little confusing at times, but VERY powerful
- try gimp it is free (and i have it on my computer ) http://www.gimp.org/ http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures http://www.gimpshop.com/ http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?tg=dl-20&qt=gimp\&tag=srch http://gimp-savvy.com/
- Hi, Your windows computer already contains a basic picture editor. It's called "mspaint" or "Paint" and you can find it at "Start->Programs->Accessories". Here is a more detailed description on how to find it: http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/geparker/where_can_i_find_microsoft_paint.htm For the more advanced stuff you definitely need a better software. Which one is hard to tell since I don't know what kind of picture you would like to edit. Maybe this helps as a basic orientation: 1. The most advanced picture editor for all purposes is Photoshop CS3. But it is also one of the most expensive and complex ones and definitely not the right choice if you are a beginner in picture editing. 2. A free alternative to Photoshop is "Gimp". But this is in many aspects even more complex to use. So probably also not a good choice. 3. If it's about editing pictures from a digital camera you are probably best off with one of the picture editors that are sold in the 60-100$ area. In the past I used to work with "Photoshop elements" version 5 a lot but their new version (6.0) is 500 Megabytes to download and has become so huge that it really slows down the computer too much. But maybe you have the chance to grab one of the older versions in a retail store. A good alternative to elements and only 14 MB to download is PhotoPerfect. The GUI is not as "cool" as elements but under the hood it offers much more. Their strengh is the automatic image optimization. Just load a pic in PhotoPerfect and press "D" on your keyboard. You will love it :-) Cheers, Chris Here are the links (all provide free or trial versions of their software): Photoshop: http://www.adobe.com gimp: http://www.gimp.org photoshop elements: http://www.adobe.com PhotoPerfect: http://www.arcadiasoftware.com
